About Denise

Denise Gough works as A Textile and Design teacher and inspired Higher School Certificate students in the subjects of Textiles and Design and Design and Technology. She provided the environment for the students to experiment with fabrics and thread to make their projects or garment construction unique. During her career she herself attended various sewing machine workshops on lace making, free-hand stitching and embroidery, solvie work, wire work, pizza and confetti fabric making. She also provided the environment to get the best out of the Bernina Sewing machines by using a wide variety of sewing machine feet to enhance the surface of fabric by braiding, fagoting, twin needling, couching and applique work.

More recently Denise attended a Carolyn Sharkey workshop, a well-known textile artist, and from this has inspired her to continue with free hand stitching and thread painting to design artworks from fabrics and thread using the environment, flora and fauna as inspiration.

For relaxation in her working life, she obtained a TAFE certificate for drawing and as well having attended a number of workshops on watercolour painting from a variety of watercolourists. From this she and has developed her skills with watercolours and particularly loves painting flowers. She has sold a number of her works over the years and her works have been hung in coffee shops in Dubbo. With more time available she wishes to pursue this area more thoroughly.
